Early Beginnings
Most evenings growing up I could be found creating almost anything in my fathers shop. Perhaps it was the draw of creating anything your heart could imagine, or the simple task of working with my hands. Either way the shop is where I dreamed to be most anytime of the day.
Creative use of my hands and mind have helped shape a career path and resume, your college councilor warned you about. Throughout college I worked doing everything from simple carpentry to timber framing. It was the act of failing a finance class that directed me to the Technology building where woodworking, wielding, and ceramics would fill the void. It was in the Furniture Design studies program at Appalachian State University I found my people and a doorway into the furniture industry. Upon finishing school I worked in a small furniture company wearing many a hats. My formal title was "Sourcing Manager" though my duties included everything from design and merchandising to showroom layout. After a few years in the corporate world I felt the need to strike out on my own.
Fast Forward
Ten years later, multiple projects, heart aches, and triumphs I am back. Working in a world that brought me to my hands again. For the past few years I have been working restoring antique and wooden boats. During this time my skill level and understanding about all things wood, metal, and life have grown significantly. While the projects are beautiful, historical, and moving I continue to be drawn to create the new instead of restoring the old.
